Mixed media artist Jean Davey Winter was born in Leicester and now lives in Hastings, East Sussex. Jean trained in Printed Textiles at Birmingham College of Art and Design and for many years combined her personal work with lecturing, including five years as Course Leader of the Fine Art Degree Course at BCUC High Wycombe from 1997-2002.
Over the years an ongoing love of travel has fed into and enriched Jeans work. The tension between abstraction and representation, which she enjoys, is apparent. The vibrancy, colour and energy, along with the texture in her collage works, are strong themes within the work. Jeans unique Concertina structures add additional layers to her fascinating work.
Jean exhibits regularly both nationally and internationally and her work is in numerous public and private collections in the UK, Japan and USA, including the National Museum of Modern Art Kyoto, Japan; Bankfield Museum and Art Gallery, Halifax, Yorkshire; Crafts Council London; GlaxoSmithKline and Dana Petroleum.
